Non-Monetary Extra Effort AwardsRecognition given for a specific outstanding accomplishment such as a superior contribution on a short-term assignment or project, an act of heroism, a scientific achievement, a major discovery, or work that resulted in significant cost savings. Nonmonetary extra effort awards include time off awards, keepsakes, letters of appreciation, and honorary awards. Time-off Awards Time-off awards are an excused absence from work, without charge to leave or loss of pay, which recognizes individual employees for extra efforts and are based on the significance of the contribution that leads to the accomplishment of the Agency’s strategic plan, mission goals and objectives. Full-time employees may be granted up to a maximum of 40 hours of time off per award, and up to a total of 80 hours of time off per leave (calendar) year. Part-time employees or employees with an uncommon (mixed) tour of duty, may be granted up to a maximum of one half of the average number of work hours in their scheduled biweekly tour of duty per award, and up to a total of the average number of work hours in their scheduled biweekly tour of duty per leave year. All employees (except SES and equivalent, and intermittent employees) are eligible for time off awards. Supervisors may grant up to 10 hours of time-off without a higher level of review or approval. If the award exceeds 10 hours, it must be reviewed and approved by the second line supervisor. In addition, a written justification must be included for time-off awards exceeding 10 hours. Non-monetary Award Items The Pennsylvania State Office maintains a supply of award items which include men and women’s clothing (such as sweatshirts, jackets and shirts) and other items such as hats, duffel bags, Leatherman tools, candy jars, pens, lunch bags and other miscellaneous items. These awards should normally meet the following criteria: 1. Be of an honorary nature. 2. Be able to be worn, displayed or used in the recipient’s work environment. 3. Include the agency’s seal or logo. A list of items available can be obtained from Mary Spardy, Accounting Technician. Requests must be submitted in writing to Anne Anderson, State Administrative Officer. Include the awardee’s name, item requested and a brief justification statement.
