Performance Bonuses
A performance bonus is monetary recognition given to an
employee for overall accomplishments achieved during their normal day-to-day
duties in relation to established performance standards. These awards are
intended to recognize a good performance throughout the rating cycle. If a
performance bonus is granted to an employee, the accomplishment write-up must be
supplemented by a written justification for the award.
When an employee is at a step 10 of his or her pay range, a
lump-sum performance based award will be given equal to the amount of a step
increase for that employee’s pay grade. No more than one lump-sum performance
bonus or quality increase may be granted in any 52-week period.
Lump-sum Performance Bonus
The level of performance required for a lump-sum
performance bonus is that employees must receive at least a fully
successful on their summary rating. A lump-sum performance bonus cannot
exceed 10 percent of an employee's annual salary. Supervisors are
required to provide separate documentation of accomplishments.
Quality Step Increase (QSI)
QSI’s are additional within-grade increases and must
be supported by a summary rating of “results achieved” on the employee’s
current performance appraisal and are
granted for high quality performance of
assigned duties and responsibilities sustained over a period of time.
Additionally, the supervisor must certify in
the award documentation that high quality performance has been sustained
for sufficient time that it is considered characteristic of the employee
and is therefore expected to continue.
Supervisors are required to provide documentation of
accomplishments for each element whenever an employee is recommended for
an outstanding rating. Documentation for each element must clearly show
how performance met the outstanding level.
